Mom's Grilled Cheese Truck

Doesn't that name tell you everything about this food truck? I was so happy to hear that a grilled cheese truck would be hitting the streets in the last round of street truck additions. Even more happy that they are one of the closest ones to my work. Total win for me and for everyone who eats there, really. Mom's Grilled Cheese Truck is located on the Howe St. side of the art gallery, Monday through Friday at lunchtimes.

Nu Greek Street

I will admit that I was one of the curious who walked up and down Georgia Street the day after the stupid hockey riots and although I love Vancouver, I didn't feel the need to write on the boarded windows of the Bay.  I don't think I could have made it through the crowds anyway.  I did however, fight my way through the crowds to the Nu Greek Street food cart. I am so happy that I did!

Ragazzi Pizza Truck

Remember that one really nice day that we had this month?  Yes, that one where the sun was shining and we all got a bit of a sunburn because it was the first sunny day and we forgot to wear sunscreen.  The one where we thought, finally- summer is here!  That was the day of Italian Days on the Drive.  I wanted to ease everyone into the sunny pictures that you are about to see.  On that one sunny day, I ate pizza at the Ragazzi Pizza Truck.

I loved the Italian Days decor they had going.

Fresh Local Wild

Previously on Fresh Local Wild...

To catch you up to speed, the FLW cart I reviewed previously is now the Kaboom Box at the same location on Granville and Robson. Do not fret, they still serve the awesome poutine. I am happy to report that Chef Josh is back on the streets with his new cart Fresh Local Wild on Burrard and Hastings.

And what an impressive cart it is! It has a patio and is carbon neutral. Chef modified the generator to run on the used fryer oil. That means the more french fries I eat, the more I save the world. Thanks Chef! Talking to him about the cart he said that he designed and built a lot of it himself as the cart has some very unique features like the patio and the saloon-type doors that open into the trailer.

La Brasserie Street

La Brasserie Street is a new street food cart, sort of. Kimono Koi Crepes has closed their lovely pink cart and reinvented themselves in a collaboration with Davie Street restaurant, La Brasserie.

They have a simple, and awesome concept. A good sandwich.

Lully's Sandwich Cart

The existence of Lully's Sandwich Cart makes me very happy yet so very sad at the same time. I am happy because they are a new street food cart located outside of the Granville Skytrain station that offers "Montreal Old Fashioned Smoked Meat" and I love smoked meat sandwiches.

This cart makes me sad because this is the new endeavor of my favorites PanDa Fresh Bakery. They have put away the bus for now to open up the sandwich cart. They have promised me that they have not taken away my mac and cheese croissant forever. Hopefully this is true and not just an answer they gave to me to calm down the carb-crazed look I had in my eyes.

Re-Up BBQ

The last downtown lunch of 2010 happened on a cold, but beautiful day in Vancouver. I could think of no better way to celebrate the beautiful day than by going for some street food. A Twitter suggestion from @YVRBcbudz led me in the direction of Re-Up BBQ. Great suggestion since I had not made it to them yet.

Located at the Art Gallery near where the countdown clock was (still is?  I didn't notice...), the Re-Up sell pulled pork sandwiches and iced tea. Period.

Eli's Serious Sausage

The name of the newest food cart/hot dog vendor in town is Eli's Serious Sausage. That name is no joke. Eli is really serious about his sausage- and they are seriously good.

Thanks to the magic of Twitter (@eateli), Adele and I went to the cart on opening day. It couldn't have been a nicer day for the grand opening. The cart is located at the corner of David Lam Park across from Pan Da Bakery.   For you out of towners, this is November 1st in Vancouver.

With the powers invested in me by the randomness of the Internet, I hereby rename this corner, Carb Heaven Park.

The Kaboom Box (formerly Fresh Local Wild)

Friday was a good day to eat my box lunch, but I didn't. I took advantage of the rain stopping for a moment to try one of the newest food carts, Fresh Local Wild (now The Kaboom Box). I love the information on the website for these guys so I was really looking forward to this lunch. On the site they talk about their concept being health concious and sustainable. Great. I also heard they have a chanterelle mushroom poutine. Even better.

They are located on the corner of Granville and Robson, in front of the Sears. They have a bright red trailer with a huge fish painted on the side.

Restaurants: Poke'm

Balls! Big M had the day off and it was a gorgeous October 1st, so we decided to try another street food cart. Today's choice: Poke'm on the corner of Hornby and Robson, across from MAC.

The motto at Poke'm "Forget sausages. Go for the balls." Okay! They even have T-Shirts that say that. She said they would be available to purchase soon when they get a website. I totally want one.

Restaurants: Kimono Koi Crepes

The idea for today's lunch is thanks to the magic of the internet. It was a typical morning. The alarm goes off, I jump out of bed bright-eyed and ready to face the day. Make myself an exciting breakfast of flocons de maïs aux bleuets, tune the radio to the CBC Early Edition and fire up the laptop. A quick check of the email and one from Twitter tells me that Kimono Koi Crepes (@Kimonokoicrepes) is now following me. Fun! I love when strangers follow me! Today's lunch was decided.

Kimono Koi Crepes is another of the new street carts in the downtown area. They are in front of the Skytrain entrance at Georgia and Granville. If they decide to give out street cart awards, Kimono Koi will certainly win for cutest cart.

I had a great success at PanDa Fresh Bakery so I was pretty excited to try another truck. They were just setting up as I arrived at the corner. I asked how long it would take to set up the truck and he said about 20 minutes. No problem, I can come back in 20 minutes. I then realized that I don't own a watch or a cell phone so I have no way to determine the passage of time.

Restaurants: PanDa Fresh Bakery

Today I was lazy and decided that I would take myself out for another lunchtime adventure! Of course, today was the day that I forgot my wallet at home. I realized that in line for coffee this morning. So it was office drip coffee and no lunch for me.

Thankfully I told my boss my sob story and she lent me $10.00! Hooray! This called for something special, a lunch time challenge. I decided to try to get lunch for under $10.00 in Yaletown!

I walked down a street that I hadn't tried before and quickly realized that I could get something for around $7-8 in some of the sit down restaurants, but that would leave about $1.00 for a tip. I didn't want to be that person, especially in Yaletown. I decided a take out or sandwich joint would be the best option so I rounded Pacific and saw the perfect answer, a food truck! The PanDa Fresh Bakery food truck to be exact! My first food truck was the perfect way to spend the $10.00.

The PNE

Big M and I went to the PNE last night. I haven't been in years, and Big M for the first time ever. One of my first memories ever was eating a blue sno-cone that my father had bought me at the PNE. Not surprising that my first memory is of food. The other first memory is about napping.

Last night's free concert was Huey Lewis and the News; an excellent reason to hit the fair. Another reason- mini donuts.

PNE 003

One of the food tricks that I have, post JC, is that I am only allowed to eat mini donuts when at a Fair. The last time I had mini donuts was at the Calgary Stampede 2 years ago. Needless to say, I was super excited about the donuts. We hit up a generic donut stand and the sugar fest started!
